At the end of June, my husband decided that he was going to grow a beard until he runs the 2010 Hood to Coast Relay at the end of August. Why? I don't know. I really don't. It is pretty common knowledge that he is unable to grow an actual beard because his facial hair is so spotty. But really, he's never given it much of a chance. I think that this declaration was just a good excuse for him to go all out. Honestly, I wasn't thrilled about the project. I do not like facial hair. His goatees usually make him look really mean.
I was shocked when I found myself kind of liking the mustache-free beard! There was one night when I woke up really mad because I had a dream that Zach shaved it off prematurely! "How could he!?!" I thought. "At least stick to your commitment!" But it was a dream, only a dream.
He survived the 2010 Hood to Coast! And the beard filled in surprisingly nicely. He had to utilize the comb over technique a bit to fill in the patches that came in thin, but it wasn't bad.
This is it in its full glory. Not mean looking at all! Even a little jolly like grandpa or Santa. And after (not quite the same pose, I know, but this is the best I have).
I realized that I need to be more open minded, because sometimes I am shocked at the things I end up liking.

Thank you for dedicating a blog post to facial hair! Strother is threatening a "Beardvember", which is apparently a month of not shaving. Gross.
Also, I wish I did Hood-to-Coast cuz the shirts are super cute!!!
I wonder if I'd be the same way. I hate the thought of Darren having facial hair but I think it looks great on some people. Zach actually looks pretty spiffy with it if I do say so though
