How to look good after giving birth

Anybody know how?  I see these gorgeous photos of women holding their newborn, what seems to be minutes after delivery.  How?  Last time, I even put a little make up on right before I went into the hospital.  By the end though, everything was smeared and I was even more swollen than when I started (and I started pretty plump).

A generous friend emailed me a picture of herself after giving birth and that's the only other one I've ever seen that  wasn't entirely glorious :)  It made me feel much better.

At the beginning of "real" labor

After this little hamster came out and I got mended.  Not so pretty.

i'll send you some not so flattering pictures of me during and after childbirth, maybe i'll even post them... hahaha. the only people who i have seen who look great afterwards are people who have one or both of the following:
1. really, really fast labors
2. epidurals

but, i think all mothers look fabulous after they have their baby because they just did something amazing and they have the most priceless expressions when seeing their little one for the first time.

little lucas is so cute!

HA! I had an epidural with Jayden and you saw my picture. Not cute. I'm hoping that now that we have a nicer camera that somehow my pictures will look better....but I won't hold my breath. I'm wondering how to do my hair so it will be out of the way and yet cute afterwards. I don't know how to do my hair, so this will be a challenge. If I ever figure out the trick to looking cute after pushing a human being out of your hoo hoo, I'll let ya know.

The only good consistent pics I've ever seen are of mothers who have scheduled C-Sections (non-emergency kind). My post-birth pics are somewhat tolerable (had half an epidural, since it only worked on one side of my body–I called it the "half-ring of fire" experience), but it was also in low lighting, so it gives the appearance that it was somewhat "romantic" (the best word I could describe the "look").

I'd also guess that most of the really attractive "after" pics are a day (or half a day) or so later once the mother has had a chance to "freshen" up and then say cheese!

You've got no need to sweat it anyways, cause everyone knows how gorgeous you are that IF (and that's a big IF, since the pics you've posted definitely wouldn't qualify for Awkward Family Photos dot Com) you had a less than lovely pic it would just be chalked up to a photographer error. ;-) You've also got some mean PhotoShop skills, so you can just swap in a better pic of you if needed!!!

Okay ENOUGH out of me already!!!!

p.s. I've got your baby gift (had a schedule conflict come up last minute the night of your baby shower) and will try to track you down this Sunday to make the exchange. ;-)

you look waaay better then I did after my first 2! There is a reason you never see the bad pics, no one wants to fess up to looking like crap. I don't even have pictures from right after I had Emmie or Allison. I didn't have an epidural with them and was sweaty, had bawled my eyes out at points from being in so much pain and thought I was going to vomit during their labors.

With Eliza I had and epidural, didn't feel a thing and was sitting pretty the whole time I was in labor with her. I pushed her out after just 2 pushes and it all felt like cake. So I agree with Courtney that epidurals and C-sections are what makes for pretty moms after the births.

And Ash didn't you labor a while before your epidural? You got in the shower and stuff right? That was probably what messed up your photo op haha

Traci, it was my being fat and sweaty that messed up my pictures, but yes, I did get in the shower for a little bit. I didn't labor too long, though.

I agree with Court. That it doesn't really matter what you look like after because you just did a miraculous thing! However... the swelling is from the pushing. The way you can look good is have a fast labor! My 2nd labor was a quarter of the time as my first, and I looked way better after, so I agree with the "fast labor" comments. so...GOOD LUCK!!!

P.S. Lucas looks the same still!!

Who cares what you look like!?!? It's the baby's actual b-day, not yours!! ;)
By the way, you look great. You should see me!

I have never shown anyone the pictures of me immediately after Grae was born. Only pictures the next day after I had showered, straightened my hair, and put on lots of make-up. The ones from right after delivery are scary...

BWHAHAHAHA> So listen. I looked awful. I was swollen all over between the fluids they were pumping into me and the fact that I was swollen before I went in. Oh. and all the pushing. Someone took a pic of the three of us right then and then SENT IT OUT TO EVERYONE IN THE FAMILY.
Still sore over that.
