Folks here in Portland were expecting a "snow-pocalypse" last week. "As many as eight inches are expected..." Of course only here would they close schools due to an expected snow storm. When we got up on Thursday morning there was indeed some snow on the ground. By the time we had breakfast and I got both kids ready to go outside -- the sun was shining beautifully and melting snow quickly.
The kids and I were disappointed that Zach couldn't stay home and play with us. He did build a little snow man in the back yard with Lucas before leaving for work (wish I had a photo of that) and taught Lucas the art of snow ball fighting :) which backfired a little later on.
Lucas walked three houses down to his friend's Sonya's house and invited himself to play in her back yard. He thought it was fun to throw some snow at her (though puny five flakes actual hit her body), but she did not appreciate it. When she got upset I told her to throw snow at him! She passionately grabbed as much snow as she could, walked up to him and showed it all in his face. It was pretty funny.
Within a day, the snow-pocalypse was pretty much history. It has now been raining ever since. I sure am glad that I bought Lucas that snow gear! So he could wear it once during the last week of February :) I am so looking forward to summer -- cheap delicious berries everywhere, trips to the beach, playing in the fountain, hikes, ice cream, fewer layering, farmers' market, no socks! ah... I love you Portland summers!
