Child Labor

Lucas has always wanted to "help" me with whatever I'm doing.  When we first let him feed himself with utensils or drink out of a cup, he made big messes, as expected.  The first few times I wiped after him, but soon he wanted to do it himself.  His wiping skills were as good as his walking skills at the time... he was still only a crawler.

All this helping made it so I could only get half of my chores done because everything took so long, but I didn't want to discourage him.

Well, he is almost two and a half and it's starting to pay off!  He has been an excellent wiper for months now, he helps to load and unload the dishwasher, and, most importantly, he gets unnaturally excited about doing my least favorite chore of all -- scrubbing the tub!  Woohoo! Maybe by the time he is six he will clean his own bathroom!
