Roommates

We bit the bullet and did it tonight, we moved the kids into the same room.  The plan was to move Anya in with Lucas 4 months ago, when she was 4 months old.  But she has been waking up almost every hour her whole life, so the though of dealing with an infant AND a grumpy, woken-up toddler throughout the night did not appeal to us.  For the last two nights Anya woke up only twice, so we decided that that was good enough.  Plus, Anya has been sleeping in the office in a pack and play which was getting warped and saggy (she's almost 20 pounds).  I figured that that wasn't good for her back, plus I wanted the office back.

The decision tonight came a little too close to bed time.  Between changing the crib sheets, moving the crib up, changing Lucas' bed bedding (peed during nap), moving the changing table out to make room for the rocker, and moving the rocker, Lucas climbing in the crib, getting his leg stuck and twisted, Anya screaming... it was kind of crazy.  We sang the song, kissed the kids goodnight and walked out.  Anya was still screaming and Lucas was sitting in his bed with a very worried/annoyed look on his face.  But as we waited outside their door, the room grew silent within seconds.  Both kids drifting into sleep.  My mom says that babies can feel the physical presence of someone in their room, so they feel more comfortable and comforted.

Now that the office is free I can actually get to my pictures.  This is the gem I found from the beginning of March.  Anya caught in the act of puking.

HOORAY! I hope it sticks. For the most part our kids in the same room has been awesome. Sometimes in the mornings I would like them in their own rooms because usually Jonah wakes up first and ends up waking Mae up when she could really sleep another hour or 2. But its not bad and they both sleep through the night. Mae has been known to wake during the night sometimes and cry out and Jonah sleeps right through it.
We have one or both of our kids sleeping in pack 'n plays at all times. We don't have two cribs and when we are gone for the summer we only bring pack 'n plays. Don't they make them to hold kids heavier than 20 lbs? Mae and Jonah surpassed that weight long ago. Guess I should be more worried about their backs.
So glad the first night was a success. Or was it? We need an update today. :)

Hai, we had Anya in the top section of the pack and play and that board got really bowed. I don't know if it's from her weight or because Lucas sometimes climbs in there with her.

Today was a success. She woke up five times in the night, but didn't wake up Lucas until the morning. Nap time worked great too, even though Anya took a while to get completely quiet. We will see what happens when I stop going in there during the night...

Is Mae still in a crib at home?

Kim, glad you liked it :) she's a puker that Anya.

Yes, thanks for the update. I was wondering how it went. You have inspired me to maybe want to try and put the kids together. But Elijah is sooo unpredictable. That kid woke up at 4:20 last night just as happy as could be and of course I ignore him but I don't know if Eva could do the same. Good luck with this. BTW, I just took Elijah out of the pack in play back in March. The kid was way over the weight requirement I am sure but sometimes you just have to do what you just have to do.

It is good to know that sharing a room works out for kids that little. We only have two bedrooms upstairs, so when the baby comes he will have to share with us or with Marie. I hope it works out...
